Another Excellent Book By This AuthorAnything I read by Jennie Goutet is a delight。 Honoria and Philip are an excellent lady and gentleman。 I love the character developments and the storyline and all its surprises。 The happy ending was warm and satisfying, as was the whole book。

This review is of A Whimsical Notion by Jennie Goutet。 It is the first book in her Daughters of the Gentry series。 I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 Coming of age means different things to different people, especially in our day。 But in Regency England it had a more defined meaning。 For men of the gentry, it meant taking on responsibilities of the estate or farms。 For women, it meant getting married and starting a family。 Unfortunately, for some it wasn’t This review is of A Whimsical Notion by Jennie Goutet。 It is the first book in her Daughters of the Gentry series。 I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 Coming of age means different things to different people, especially in our day。 But in Regency England it had a more defined meaning。 For men of the gentry, it meant taking on responsibilities of the estate or farms。 For women, it meant getting married and starting a family。 Unfortunately, for some it wasn’t that set if a parent were to die or be too sick to carry on their normal duties。 Then the gentry had to grow up fast and take on responsibilities before they were ready。 Philip Townsend has never been able to work well with his servants, although he can run the rest of the estate very well。 He’d rather flee than take on a disagreement with them。 Honoria Bassett has taken over the running of her home earlier than she should because of her mother’s illness。 She has developed a strong mind of her own and at times is not as biddable as her father thinks she should be。 Then there’s the third neighbor family that is also forced into adulthood when their mother dies。 Augustus and Christine Grey have also come of age early and round out our main characters。 The author has done her usual excellent job of telling us quit a bit about them。 And now the fun begins as the story is told。 How do each of these people handle coming of age? Are the men able to handle their estates? Is there a wedding in anyone’s future? Do they look at the world differently now?You are going to have to read this delightful tale and find the answers for yourself。 Discovering answers is more fun than being handed them。 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and go on to read some of this favorite author’s other books。 。。。more

4。5⭐️A Whimsical Notion was everything good in a regency romance。 I loved it! It was almost enemies to lovers with a touch of Romeo and Juliet。 There were rakes, honorable gestures and a envious romance。 The main characters were wonderful and I enjoyed all of the side characters。 The story still makes me smile。 I’m excited that this is just book one of a series and look forward to more of it。 If you like clean regency romance then I highly recommend it。 Thanks Jennie Goutet for a great romance。 4。5⭐️A Whimsical Notion was everything good in a regency romance。 I loved it! This weekend I traveled to the English countryside。 In the town of Horncastle。 Not by air, but by Jenni Goutet’s storytelling。 Since I’ve enjoyed her Clavering Chronicles, I knew I would like her newest series。 A Whimsical Notion is book 1 in the Daughters of the Gentry series。 If you are like me and still have to look up definitions, then gentry means high-born or noble。While I am not of noble birth, I felt a kinship with Honoria。 She is a woman who values her role as a homemaker and caretaker。 This weekend I traveled to the English countryside。 In the town of Horncastle。 Not by air, but by Jenni Goutet’s storytelling。 Since I’ve enjoyed her Clavering Chronicles, I knew I would like her newest series。 A Whimsical Notion is book 1 in the Daughters of the Gentry series。 If you are like me and still have to look up definitions, then gentry means high-born or noble。While I am not of noble birth, I felt a kinship with Honoria。 She is a woman who values her role as a homemaker and caretaker。 She respects her parents, and cares for those in her circle。 And there was a time I was naive and blindsided by love。Philip is a hero that will have you cheering for him from the start。 He has no family, and is trying to fix his family estate all on his own。 Philip not only demonstrates his strong work ethic, but he also portrays gentleness, kindness, and thoughtfulness。 He adores Honoria, and patiently waits for her to realize he is the one for her。 Their playful smiles and gentle teasing gave me all the feels。 I wish I could tell you all my favorite parts, but to avoid spoilers I will say parts of the story reminded me of Romeo & Juliet。 I recommend this book to readers who enjoy sweet regency romance。Read if you like: Forbidden RomanceSweet Romance (just kissing)Historical RomanceChildhood Friends-to-LoversSlow-BurnThank you Jenni for a copy of the book! Thank you so much @aladyinfrance for letting me be a part of your arc team! Here’s what I loved about A Whimsical Notion:• the forbidden romance • Honoria was downright loveable but she wasn’t a pushover when it came to what she wanted from life • the chemistry • Philip’s kindness and patience • the window scene 🥰This entire story felt so peaceful and enchanting, while still proving the forbidden romance tension! It was delightful。 ★ ★ ★ ★/5Steam: kissesTW: none

I cannot recommend this book with its obvious plot and immature writing。 Dialogue feels clunky and non period。 Heroine changed her romantic interest from one man to another too quickly。 There is too much mundane detail given and it's difficult to tell to whom pronouns refer。 I wouldn't have finished the book if I had anything else to read at the time。 I cannot recommend this book with its obvious plot and immature writing。 Dialogue feels clunky and non period。 Heroine changed her romantic interest from one man to another too quickly。 There is too much mundane detail given and it's difficult to tell to whom pronouns refer。 I wouldn't have finished the book if I had anything else to read at the time。 。。。more

Jennie Goutet has done it again in this beautiful story! I loved Honoria and Philip, they were great characters that I rooted for from the beginning。 Honoria is so lovable from the beginning and is so kind and caring, she just wants to help others! I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion。 Philip Townsend is busy trying to manage his estate and keep it solvent。 Neighbor Honoria Bassett thinks she’s in love with a mutual friend who flirts with everyone。 Her father and Philip’s father didn’t see eye to eye。 When Honoria discovers Philip would be a better match, her father won’t allow it。 The plot includes trust and seeing the best in others。 A tender must read book!
